About this Site, About Us

Why this site?

For years I've been telling people that kids aren't the only ones who play with toys. Plenty of adults play with sex toys, but they still seem like a well-kept secret. Too many folks are afraid they'll be stereotyped in some way if they try a sex toy (you're a loner, you're dysfunctional, you're selfish). This site is my attempt to bring sex toys out of the closet, both literally and metaphorically. I hope you'll read a sexy toy tale that inspires you to try a toy, which will in turn inspire you to write your own tale and share it with us.

At the heart of this site is a collection of steamy sex toy tales written by people like you and me. Folks who've experimented with toys, or fantasized about them, and then put their stories down in glorious, explicit detail. I've found that self-help instruction is all well and good, but sometimes you just want to see a toy in action to truly appreciate its pleasure potential. I'll also use the site to dish out useful sex toy tips and to review some of today's best toys—in the hopes that a story motivates a little experimentation of your own.

To encourage you to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) I'm giving a prize each month to the story that readers' like best. Check out the submissions guidelines for more information.

Anne: Who am I?

Anne and daughter, Lily

My name is Anne Semans. I have spent most of my adult life educating people about sex and its wonders. I've worked at three women-run sex toy businesses over the past fifteen years (Libida, Toys in Babeland and Good Vibrations), during which I answered hundreds of different questions about sexuality, reviewed stacks of sex books and product-tested my share of toys (my personal favorites are the Hitachi Magic Wand and the Rabbit Pearl vibrator). All that experience led to co-authoring several books on sex, an exercise which my Stanford degree in English Lit prepared me for technically, but one which has scandalized a few former professors and classmates!

Sex work has been incredibly liberating and exciting to a girl raised in a Catholic family, where sex (and any mention of it) was as forbidden as that juicy red apple Eve plucked from the tree. Since I once was a curious teen who would have benefited immensely from decent sex information, I've never doubted the life-enhancing potential of my work.

The World Wide Web is an ideal medium for sex education, research and networking, and I'm trying to expand my work into this arena as much as possible. I'm currently the Sexuality Guide at About.com, where you'll find the largest collection of my work online. If you like what you read, why not support a single mom and improve your sexual literacy, by buying one of my books! They are:

Michelle: Who am I?

Michelle doing the work she loves

I'm Michelle Johnson and I'm doing the work I love: Web Design for sex-positive websites. In 1995, I started Heartless's Holey Haven featuring Stupid Penis Tricks when adult humor websites from a woman's point of view were scare.

Today I'm still doing Web Design and my own personal site, Makes Grown Men Cry, continues to grow. Building the Sex Toy Tales site, reading the tales, tips, and toy reviews has been a real pleasure. How can you not have a smile on your face while designing and doing markup around big, beautiful dildos?

I am, indeed, a fortunate woman.
